“I don’t sing because I’m happy; I’m happy because I sing.” ~ William James, Psychologist
My Education and Experience: I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Lehigh
University (APA-accredited). I completed my predoctoral internship at the Center for Counseling
and Student Development at the University of Delaware (APA-accredited), and my postdoctoral
training was done at Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 in Easton, PA. In addition to my counseling
practice, I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at
Marywood University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania
(PC009423).
My Professional Identity: The principles of counseling psychology serve as my foundation;
empathy, genuineness, unconditional respect, self-awareness, and diversity are core values that
guide my work and life. As such, I am a member of the American Psychological Association
(APA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). Likewise, I adhere to the APA and
ACA codes of ethics, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) Ethical
Code for Supervisors, and the APA Guidelines for Clinical Supervision in Health Service
Psychology.
My Specialty in Spirituality: Spirituality is an important area of focus for me. I am a researcher
of inclusive spirituality, having studied how it influences depression, substance use, well-being,
mindfulness, and counselor effectiveness. Moreover, I teach two graduate courses in spirituality
at Marywood University; these courses emphasize how spirituality, religion, and diversity might
be meaningfully integrated into counseling and psychotherapy.
My Specialty in Supervision: Individual and group clinical supervision have been central to my
work, mostly through my responsibilities at Marywood University. I received two years of
clinical supervision training at Lehigh University and a third year of clinical supervision training
at the University of Delaware. Further, I have six publications in clinical supervision, and I am a
frequent presenter at regional, national, and international conferences.
